ENGLISH ACCENT

Teachers and students are often worried about the English accent they are learning or teaching; but nowadays there are as many accents as countries in the world. So this is not actually important, the important thing is to develop the competence to communicate in a real context with real people. Sometimes, we try to talk like other people (British or American) because we like to listen how they pronounce; however we must speak our own English without forgetting the grammar and phonetic rules…and what do you think about it?

Why learn English?

Learning English is a hard task teachers must face in their classrooms because the students are not aware of its importance for their daily life...How can we deal with this situation?

Music, a good way of learning a language

Music is a universal language and everybody loves music, no matter the preferred style. Music is a good way of learning English taking into account that there are thousands of songs available in the web with their lyrics and videos. That´s why a website like Youtube or programs such as Ares or Limewire are too visited and used every day. Young people are fond of English music and teachers should take advantage of this resource in their daily lessons. Many activities can be developed with music, it´s just a matter of investing some time on choosing the right songs and preparing useful exercises.

The technology, and specially the Internet, is generating unbelievable opportunities to learn and practice the universal language -English-. The websites and the materials which can be used in the learning process are all around us, we only need to take advantage of the computer. There are lots of programs and sites where students and teachers can find plenty of activities and exercises; however we must be aware of the benefits and possible problems caused by technology, so it is important to create a culture, where all of us are able to understand how to use it appropriately. Besides, we need to create links with the technology as a result of its impact in the modern world. Thus, education and the language learning should be closely related in order to create a nice environment where the students and teachers feel comfortable developing skills by means of the technological materials.
